The music and legacy of Astor Piazzolla are the starting point for this project that debuted at the Bebop Club in Buenos Aires in March 2025, expanding the aesthetic limits of tango to the present day.
The Quinteto Revolucionario, official group of the Astor Piazzolla Foundation, is a group acclaimed by critics as the most important interpreter of Piazzolla's music and one of the best in the current Buenos Aires music scene.
Together with the italian saxofonist and composer Silvio Zalambani they present the album Piazzolla y más allá (Beyond Piazzolla), recorded in Buenos Aires at the Fort Music Studio and composed of some of Astor's compositions as well as pieces by Zalambani himself, Leonardo Sánchez and Cristian Zárate, both among the greatest exponents of contemporary tango.
Over its nearly 150 year history, tango has evolved alongside the great masters who have been part of this long journey. This album, produced by Borgatti Musical Editions of Bologna (Italy), offers an innovative contribution to this evolutionary and growth trajectory, starting with a reinterpretation of Tango Nuevo and showing the current music scene in Buenos Aires in this 21st century.
Silvio Zalambani and the Quinteto Revolucionario add new traits and characteristics to today's tango, drawn from jazz, Latin American folk music and contemporary classical music. Through this, they reconnected with the legacy left by Astor Piazzolla and his research, a source of inspiration and a starting point for the tango of our time.
